RhinoHere it comes! You can check out The Monkees‘ new single, “She Makes Me Laugh,” via a lyrics video that premiered Thursday on RollingStone.com. The upbeat, poppy tune was written by Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, and is the lead track off of the famed 1960s group’s upcoming studio album, Good Times!, which will be released on May 27.

The video appears to bounce around to different frames from a vintage Monkees comic book, as the lyrics appear in speech bubbles alongside the band’s members.

While “She Makes Me Laugh” is very reminiscent of classic Monkees tunes, with its jangly 12-string guitar riffs and melodic vocals from Micky Dolenz, Cuomo’s contribution is definitely felt in lyrics like “We’ll have a dinner date tonight and play some scrabble with the guys, and wear our pink party hats.”

“I’m super stoked to be writing a song for the Monkees,” says Cuomo in the album’s liner notes. “I’ve always identified with their musical aesthetic — the chord changes and melodies.”

Surviving Monkees members Dolenz, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith all contributed their musical and songwriting talents to Good Times! The album also includes vintage songs written by Harry Nilsson, Neil Diamond, Carole King & Gerry Goffin and Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart, and new tunes penned by OasisNoel Gallagher and The Jam‘s Paul Weller, XTC‘s Andy Partridge, Death Cab for Cutie‘s Ben Gibbard and Fountains of Wayne‘s Adam Schlesinger.
