Founding KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has unleashed an official video for his rendition of the 1970 Free tune “Fire and Water,” which appears on his recently released solo album Origins, Vol. 1. The track and video reunite Frehley with his former KISS band mate Paul Stanley.
The clip marks the first time that the two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have performed together since KISS’ 2002 appearance at the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. The video begins with a scene showing Stanley approaching Frehley in an alleyway. After greeting each other with a handshake and a hug, Paul asks Ace how he’s doing, to which the guitar legend answers, “I’m great.” Stanley then asks, “So how long has it been?” and Frehley responds, “Too many years.” Paul proceeds to ask, “Think we got it?” and Ace declares, “We still got it.”
The scene then shifts to a soundstage, where Stanley, Frehley and Ace’s backing band are shown rocking out to “Fire and Water.” While Frehley wails away during the song’s extended solo, one of his guitar pickups begins to glow and smoke pours out from it.
You can watch the video now at Frehley’s official VEVO channel.
Origins, Vol. 1 is a 12-track album that features Frehley’s interpretations of songs by various artists that influenced and inspired him, including Cream, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Thin Lizzy, The Kinks, Steppenwolf, Free and, yes, KISS. In addition to Stanley, a number of other famous rockers lent their talents to the record, including Slash, Lita Ford and Pearl Jam‘s Mike McCready.
The album was released on April 15, and debuted at #23 on the Billboard 200 chart and at #4 on the Top Rock Albums tally.
