Chris Graythen/Getty ImagesOver the weekend, both Lady Gaga and Elton John — two stars whose onstage personas are as least as flamboyant as Prince’s was — paid tribute to the late music legend; Gaga on social media, and Elton onstage.

On Instagram, Gaga wrote, “I tend to believe that when we die our souls hover, for at least a moment if not longer, before they either rest or are recycled into the consciousness of an already-living being or maybe a newborn baby. Isn’t it amazing Prince shared his soul with us so deeply before his death, and now after we will be replenished endlessly by both his legacy and all that he still has to give from the beyond.”

She added, “Thank you for sharing your life with us, Prince. Giving up your anonymity because you felt compelled to share your gift. We learned so much. You just found God early, he needed you upstairs to innovate in heaven.”

As for Elton, he took time out from his Million Dollar Piano show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas Saturday night to reminisce about Prince, specifically the time the two were both performing in Vegas at the same time.

“He was doing a show at the Rio called 3121, and we stay at apartments, and he was staying at the apartment across from me,” Elton said, in a video captured by TMZ.  “I would get up at 8:15am to play tennis, and he’d just be coming in.”  As the crowd laughed, Elton added, “We’d meet outside the elevator and say hi to each other.”

Elton said, “I just wanna say, you’re a Purple Warrior, we loved you, we salute you and and we’re gonna miss you.”  He then launched into “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues,” accompanied by visuals of Prince behind him.
