Steve Mack/Getty ImagesAt her swanky 74th birthday party in New York City on Thursday night, the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin wasn’t only receiving gifts, she was giving out a few nuggets about her long-delayed biopic project.

“I’m in the last of the negotiations, because we have agreed on the key things and the most important things,”Franklin told The Huffington Post about the proposed film, which has been in limbo since first announced in 2010. “So it’s just something minimal to finish, and then we can move forward from there. It’s some of the people that were involved in Straight Outta Compton, and this is gonna be Straight Outta Detroit.”

In a 2014 interview with the Wall Street Journal, Franklin offered two names of people she’d like to see play her in the film — Audra McDonald and Jennifer Hudson — and Thursday night she cryptically told The Huffington Post, “I spoke to the young lady about a week ago — I won’t say which one of the two it was — but I spoke to her, and she’s ready. We’re gonna go forward with it.”
