Prince, Stevie Wonder Performed at Private Weekend White House Party

NPG Records/Chelsea Lauren; Monty Brinton/CBSYes it’s 2015, but the White House partied like it was 1999 over the weekend.  President Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and their guests were treated to a concert by Prince and Stevie Wonder, according to tweets from attendees of a private soiree at the White House Saturday night.

The New York Post‘s Page Six gossip column reports that, according to its sources, Prince performed for two hours, while Wonder was brought up onstage for a surprise duet rendition of his hit “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.”  Only about 500 guests were said to be in attendance, including such celebrities as James Taylor and Jon Bon Jovi; Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his date, singer Ciara; actors Tyler Perry, Connie Britton and Angela Bassett; and Reverend Al Sharpton.

Sharpton posted a message about the event on his Twitter feed that read, “Leaving the White House party [with the president and first lady]. Awesome to see Prince and Stevie Wonder on keyboards together. Unbelievable experience.”

Meanwhile, The Washington Post reports that, according to various social media posts, Prince also brought Wonder on stage on Sunday night during the latter of two concerts he played at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C.

The White House confirmed the president and first lady hosted a private party for friends and family that night, but declined to comment on the musical entertainment.
