The Who Reschedules Postponed US Concerts for December

Image Courtesy of The WhoThe Who wrapped up the first North American leg of its 50th anniversary tour this past Saturday in Forest Hills, New York, but the British rock legends will be back for another series of stateside shows in the fall.  The upcoming trek, which kicks off September 14 in San Diego, originally was slated to wind down in November, but it’s now been extended into December because of some just-announced scheduling changes and makeup dates.

Among newly announced December shows are the three early-May concerts that the band postponed when singer Roger Daltrey was advised by his doctors to rest his voice.  The Who’s concert in Louisville, Kentucky, that initially had been scheduled for May 9 now will be held December 4; a performance in St. Louis that was to have taken place May 7 has been moved to December 6; and a show in Kansas City, Missouri, originally scheduled for May 5 is set for December 8.

In addition, two previously announced concerts that already were part of The Who’s second North American leg have been moved to give Daltrey more time to rest his voice between gigs.  The band’s October 21 show in Toronto now is scheduled for December 2, while a September 23 concert in Oakland, California, has been pushed back to December 13.  The latter date now will serve as the final date for The Who’s fall North American trek.

All previously purchased tickets for the rescheduled concerts will be honored at the newly announced dates.  Tickets for all dates are on sale now via TheWho.com and AXS.com.  Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will open all shows on the tour leg except for The Who’s September 19 concert in Las Vegas.

Prior to their return to North America, The Who has several summer shows in Europe, including a June 28 headlining performance at the U.K.’s famed Glastonbury Festival.

Pete Townshend has issued a statement about the just-finished American tour leg, saying, “The audiences have been amazing, warm and forgiving.  Roger has battled sometimes, not so much with his voice as with a muscle problem that may well go back to a car crash in Australia many years ago.  Towards the end he got better and better.  And happier.  Good to see.”
