Capitol RecordsDon Henley‘s new country-flavored album, Cass County, the Eagles singer/drummer’s first solo effort in 15 years, hit stores today. The record features guest appearances by Mick Jagger, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Miranda Lambert, Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Martina McBride and others, and is available in a variety of configurations, including as a 12-track standard CD, 16-song deluxe CD and two-LP vinyl editions, and standard and deluxe digital versions .
A super deluxe version also is being sold exclusively via Henley’s online store, and features the deluxe CD and double-vinyl set, collectible postcards, and a 50-page booklet containing new photos. In addition, Target is selling an exclusive 18-track version of Cass County that includes two bonus songs — “It Don’t Matter to the Sun,” a duet with Stevie Nicks, and a rendition of Jackson Browne‘s “Here Comes Those Tears Again” featuring backing vocals by Krauss and Gill.
Henley co-produced Cass County with ex-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers drummer Stan Lynch, and the two also co-wrote 11 of the songs on the record. The album, which is named for the county in northeastern Texas where Henley grew up, was recorded mostly in Nashville and Dallas.
The 68-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will support Cass County with a U.S. tour that gets under way on October 3 in Phoenix and runs through a November 12 show in Philadelphia. Henley also is slated to appear on an episode of the PBS performance series Austin City Limits that’s scheduled to premiere on October 24.
