Gilmour recorded the track with his son Joe two years ago, but only recently agreed to allow Mojo to include the song on the free disc.
“I really wish I had been in The Beatles,” Gilmour tells the magazine with regard to his interest in covering the tune. “[They] taught me how to play guitar, I learnt everything. The bass parts, the lead, the rhythm, everything. They were fantastic.”
The CD, which is titled David Gilmour & Friends, features songs that salute the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s life and music. Gilmour appears on six tracks on the disc, which also contains tracks songs by various artists who have collaborated with David over the years, including Phil Manzanera, Robert Wyatt and The Pretty Things.
The CD serves as a companion to an in-depth interview with Gilmour, which was conducted at his home by Mojo writer Tom Doyle. In article, David discusses his soon to be release solo album, Rattle That Lock. The issue will go on sale in the U.K. this Tuesday, August 25.
