Capitol RecordsThe soundtrack to the acclaimed Brian Wilson biopic, Love & Mercy, will be released as a digital download on Friday, August 14, and will be available on CD on September 18. The 13-track album, titled Music from Love & Mercy, includes three classic Beach Boys songs — “Don’t Worry Baby,” “God Only Knows” and “Good Vibrations” — as well as the new Wilson solo “One Kind of Love,” which Brian wrote specifically for the movie.
In addition, the soundtrack features a live version of Wilson’s solo song “Love and Mercy” and a rendition of “God Only Knows” sung by actor Paul Dano, who portrays Brian as a young man in the film. The record also includes several score pieces written by Academy Award-winning composer Atticus Ross.
“Atticus’ musical work with the film was absolutely brilliant,” says Wilson. “Through the score he was able to tastefully capture some of the most joyful and dark moments of my life.”
Love & Mercy stars Dano and John Cusack, who portray Brian during two dramatic periods in his life — the mid-to-late 1960s, when he was at his creative peak with The Beach Boys, and the late 1980s, when he met his current wife Melinda while he was struggling with mental health issues.
Incidentally, “One Kind of Love” also appears on Wilson’s latest solo album, No Pier Pressure, which was released in April.
