Credit: Rob ShanahanFounding Yes bassist Chris Squire died Saturday at the age of 67 of a rare form of leukemia, and now his widow, Scotland, has come forward with some news to share regarding her late husband.
Scotland Squire reveals in a statement posted on YesWorld.com, “My best friend and the love of my life Chris Squire will be cremated today in Scottsdale, Arizona at 3:00 p.m. [6 p.m. ET].” She then quips, “However, knowing Chris, he might be running a bit late for the event; after all, he has always been the ‘late ‘ Chris Squire.”
Scotland goes on to request that, “at 3:00 p.m. Phoenix time, please take a moment to play your favorite Yes or Chris Squire song, or just think of your favorite Chris Squire memory.”
Squire was the only member of Yes to play with every incarnation of the band since its 1969 formation.
Meanwhile, a bevy of new tributes have been added to the webpage Yes created to commemorate Squire’s passing, including one from longtime Yes guitarist Steve Howe. Howe writes, “It’s hard to imagine the future without Chris! I sense that he will be in our thoughts & minds for sometime…He was a one-off, larger than life human being, who brought a serious amount to everything he was part of…Long may his memory resonate through the lands.”
