Want to Buy Elton John's 1984 Wedding Bridesmaid's Dress?

Harley Medcalf, John’s former tour promoter and wedding organizer now working for the entertainment company Duet Group, is handling the auction particulars.  “I know the lady, we went to the wedding together and it was probably the party of the year,” he told Australia’s Daily Telegraph. “It would be worth a lot to someone, it’s certainly a valuable piece of memorabilia.”

If the new owner fancies wearing the dress, Medcalf said it is in “very good condition” and is a size ten to twelve.

John was engaged once in the 1960s to secretary Linda Woodrow, referenced in the song “Someone Saved My Life Tonight.” In 1976, he told Rolling Stone he was bisexual, so the 1984 wedding to Blaulel was widely speculated to be a cover for the singer’s homosexuality. The marriage officially ended in 1988, with John telling the magazine he was comfortable being gay.

Asked what Sir Elton — who married longtime partner David Furnish last December following the legalization of gay marriage in England — would think of the auction, Medcalf remarked, “I think he would have a good laugh.”
