Courtesy of SkittlesAerosmith‘s Steven Tyler stars in a wacky new commercial for Skittles that will be shown during Super Bowl 50 this Sunday, February 7. The surreal 30-second ad, which you can watch now on YouTube, centers around a portrait of the rock legend that’s made entirely out of the colorful candies.
The clip begins with Tyler walking down a hallway in what clearly is supposed to be his mansion — complete with gold records on the wall, suits of armor and an “ST”-monogrammed carpet. As the piano intro to “Dream On” plays in the background, Tyler approaches a canvas covered with a blue sheet and says, “All right, let’s do this. I’ve got minds to twist and values to warp.”
An elderly, bespectacled man then declares, “Mr. Tyler, your Skittles portrait,” and pulls off the sheet to unveil the bizarre-looking candy art.
The singer is not impressed, and yells, “That is e-to-the-z, ooh-tweedly-dee-sgusting!”
Weirdly, the portrait comes to life and responds to Tyler’s critique by saying, “You haven’t heard me sing-diddly-ding yet,” and sings the words, “Dream On.” Steven then commands the animated art piece to sing higher and higher, and the portrait eventually screams so high that it breaks apart, as the Skittles spill all over the floor. The mouth of the portrait remains intact, though, and sings “Dream On” one more time as the commercial ends.
Adweek reports that the ad will run during the second quarter of the Super Bowl, which will air on CBS starting at 6:30 p.m. ET.
