A media report claiming that the 68-year-old guitar legend had died began circulating on Tuesday, but a message posted on Santana’s official website today insists that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is just fine.
“Carlos is alive and well and enjoying his morning!” reads the post. “Thank you all for your concern, but the reports of his passing are false.”
According to Mashable, the fake news of Santana’s death stems from a Twitter message posted by Canadian journalist Chris Walker, who reported that Carlos’ body had been found in a car. The body in question apparently turned out to be another man with the same name. Walker later apologized, admitting that he was “wrong to rely on single source, and against CBC policy besides.”
This past weekend, Santana and his band wrapped up their latest series of Las Vegas concerts as part of their ongoing residency in Sin City. Their next show is scheduled for October 30 in Tempe, Arizona, as part of the first day of the three-day Monster Mash Festival. Santana will headline the bill, which also features John Fogerty and Tedeschi Trucks Band.
