Faces Box Set Featuring Band's Four Studio Albums, Unreleased Tracks & More Due

Rhino RecordsOoh la la! Fans of Rod Stewart‘s old band Faces have a treat in store as a box set featuring expanded versions of the group’s four studio albums, plus a bonus disc of non-album cuts, is scheduled to be released on August 28.  You Can Make Me Dance, Sing or Anything (1970-1975) will be available as a five-CD collection, a digital download and a limited-edition five-LP 180-gram vinyl package offering discs cut from the original analog master tapes.

The box set boasts 1970’s The First Step, 1971’s Long Player and A Nod Is as Good as a Wink…to a Blind Horse and 1973’s Ooh La La, with each album featuring at least two previously unreleased tracks, including outtakes, alternate versions, and songs performed live in concert or for BBC radio.  Rounding out the collection is a nine-song bonus album featuring songs that didn’t appear on any Faces studio release, including singles and B-sides.

Faces formed in 1969, when Stewart and his Jeff Beck Band mate Ronnie Wood joined forces with Small Faces members Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones after their group’s frontman, Steve Marriott, left to start Humble Pie.  Faces’ music varied from blues-rock, classic rock ‘n’ roll and barrelhouse boogie to soul and folk.  They are best known for their bluesy 1971 hit “Stay with Me,” while also recording such other memorable tunes as “Ooh La La,” “Cindy Incidentally” and “Glad and Sorry.”  In addition, the band became infamous for their boozy and raucous performances.

Among the interesting unreleased bonus tracks are a BBC Session versions of “Stay with Me” and “Cindy Incidentally,” and live covers of bluesman Robert Johnson‘s “Love in Vain” and John Lennon‘s “Jealous Guy.”

In 2012, Faces were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, jointly with Small Faces.
