Tina Turner to Become a Swiss Citizen

BeyondSinging.comWhen you hear the word "Swiss," you probably think of cheese, but now, you can also think of Tina Turner.  The legendary rock and pop vocalist is about to become a naturalized Swiss citizen.

According to the Swiss paper Zuerichsee-Zeitung, Tina, who's been living in Switzerland for 18 years, has had her application for Swiss citizenship approved by her local council, although the decision is still subject to federal and state approval.  A spokeswoman tells the paper that Turner's celebrity status didn't affect the application process; she went through the same steps everyone else does.

The spokeswoman added that the 73-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer likes Switzerland so much because of the "beautiful scenery," "the friendly people" and the fact that celebrities' privacy is respected in that country.  Other stars who've enjoyed a relatively private life in Switzerland include Shania Twain and Phil Collins.
