About Horses‘ final tune, “Elegie,” which she co-wrote with ex-boyfriend and late Blue Oyster Cult member Allen Lanier, Smith said, “A lot has happened in 40 years and all of us have lost people that we love…obviously we can’t name them all, but this little song, written for Jimi Hendrix, now becomes a song to honor and remember all of them.”

Among the many celebrities who attended the concert were ex-R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe, Arcade Fire‘s Win Butler, Liv Tyler, director Darren Aronofsky, The StrokesNikolai Fraiture, Dead Weather‘s Alison Mosshart, James Marsden, Alexander Skarsgard, Natasha Lyonne, Dakota Johnson, designer Christian Siriano and photographers Danny Clinch and Mark Seliger.

As previously reported, Patti has been celebrating the 40th anniversary of Horses‘ release at her shows throughout 2015, and she will launch a series of European and U.S. dates starting with a September 19 show in Zurich, Switzerland.
