Image Courtesy of The Rolling StonesThe first-ever major exhibition focusing on The Rolling Stones will roll into London’s renowned Saatchi Gallery in the spring of 2016. The exhibit, dubbed “Exhibitionism,” will offer an in-depth look at the band’s history and will featured nine themed sections spread across two full floors of the gallery.
The exhibition, which is being put together with the band’s full cooperation, will offer a vast array of Stones memorabilia, including more than 500 previously unseen artifacts. The display will take fans on an interactive journey through the group’s 50-plus-year career and will feature various instruments, unheard audio tracks and rare video clips, original posters and album art, personal diaries and correspondence, costumes, stage designs, film presentations and more. The exhibit also will salute the band’s collaborations with numerous respected artists and filmmakers, including Andy Warhol, Shepard Fairey, Alexander McQueen, Tom Stoppard and Martin Scorsese.
“We’ve been thinking about this for quite a long time but we wanted it to be just right and on a large scale,” Mick Jagger says of the exhibition, which has been in the works for more than three years. “The process has been like planning our touring concert productions and I think that right now it’s an interesting time to do it.”
Adds Keith Richards, “While this is about The Rolling Stones, it’s not necessarily only just about the members of the band. It’s also about all the paraphernalia and technology associated with a group like us, and it’s this, as well as the instruments that have passed through our hands over the years, that should make the exhibition really interesting.”
“Exhibitionism” will open on April 5, 2016, and will run through September 4. Tickets go on sale starting on Friday, July 10, at 9 a.m. British Standard Time/4 a.m. ET, and can be purchased online at StonesExhibitionism.com.
