Photo: Robert GuayElton John pulled out of his scheduled concert at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, on Friday just a few hours before he was scheduled to take the stage. A statement posted on the venue's official Facebook page reports that the cancellation was due to unspecified "medical reasons."
Fans who bought tickets for the event via Ticketmaster.com or by phone will receive an automatic refund. Others holding tickets should return them where they where they were purchased.
The Birmingham performance was to have been the first in a run of U.S. tour dates John has lined up during the coming weeks. His next show is slated to take place scheduled for tonight at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee. As of early Saturday, that gig was still scheduled to go on as planned.
