Credit: Frank MelfiLed Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant and his current group, The Sensational Space Shifters, have announced plans for a 2016 trek that will visit a variety of locations in the southern U.S. this March.  The trek, dubbed “Blues…Roots and Hollers (A Southern Journey),” gets underway with a March 4 performance at the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival in Okeechobee, Florida, and is mapped out through a March 20 concert in Austin, Texas.

Opening all dates on Plant’s outing will be the legendary Tacoma, Washington-based garage-rock band The Sonics.

“I’m always eager to return to the hospitality of the Southern states,” Robert says in a statement about the tour. “Towns and cities that hold fond memories for me personally, places that gave birth to so much of the music I love.”

Plant also reveals that he and his group are in the process of making a follow-up album to 2014’s lullaby and…The Ceaseless Roar.

“Having just begun work on our new album, we thought we’d take time out to raise a little sand and welcome springtime with one more adventure,” he says, “another celebration of life and song.”
